Pet End-of-Life Support

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the most challenging moments a pet owner can face. At Edgewater Animal Hospital, we consider it a privilege to guide families through this process with empathy, respect, and compassion. Every step of care is designed to honor your pet’s life and the bond you share.

Understanding When It’s Time

Recognizing when quality of life is declining isn’t easy. Some pets begin to show subtle changes including:

  • Continued lethargy
  • Loss of appetite
  • Difficulty going to the bathroom
  • Severe pain or mobility issues

We take the time to listen, observe, and thoughtfully discuss what you’re seeing and how your pet is feeling. Together, we can consider quality of life and support you in making decisions that prioritize comfort and dignity.

Comfort First

When the time comes for humane euthanasia, our veterinary team will provide a peaceful, private setting where you and your pet can be together without distraction. Appointments are done in a calm room with a private entrance to allow for quiet reflection and meaningful final moments. We encourage you to bring any blankets, stuffed animals, or play gentle music while saying goodbye.

Our approach includes:

  • A gentle review of your pet’s health and what to expect based on your wishes
  • Thoughtful sedation when appropriate to ensure your pet is relaxed and comfortable
  • A peaceful euthanasia process performed with care and respect
  • Time afterward to be with your pet without feeling rushed

We work at your pace and answer every question with sincerity and sensitivity so you feel supported throughout the process.

End-of-Life Care for your pet

Memorial Options & Aftercare Planning

After your pet’s passing, some families find comfort in keepsakes and memorial options. Edgewater Animal Hospital offers:

Cremation services through Faithful Companion, with the option to have ashes returned

Keepsake options, such as paw prints and fur clippings, if desired

Coordination of aftercare details so you can focus on what matters most

Our team can help you understand what each option means including timing, choices, and how to personalize these moments of remembrance.

Emotional Support & Compassion

Losing a pet is deeply personal, and emotions can range from sadness and grief to relief that suffering has ended. We’re here to support you through all of it. Whether you need quiet time with your pet after the procedure or someone to speak with before or after this experience, we listen without judgment, and walk beside you with empathy.
